Robert Murray M’Cheyne wrote to Dan Edwards after the Edward’s ordination as a missionary, 

“In great measure, according to the purity and perfections of the instrument, will be the success. It is not great talents God blesses so much as great likeness to Jesus. A holy minister is an awful weapon in the hand of God”.

Dear Church, 

We have called Pastor Mike Schmidt to be our Associate Pastor to fill his duty to the Lord and to this congregation at this kingdom outpost.  May we be found faithful to pray for our pastors, that they be holy instruments of the Lord.  That they know that the pastor’s talents are not so important than his likeness to Jesus.  And to pray for the church, that they would be willing to listen and follow such a pastor that in the hand of God is an awful weapon to bring sinners to conviction and saints to compassion for the lost.
